Dr. William Conte is a board-certified neurologist who specializes in multiple sclerosis (MS) and other autoimmune diseases of the central nervous system. He has advanced fellowship training in MS and neuroimmunology, with clinical expertise in conditions such as neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD), MOG antibody disease (MOGAD), autoimmune encephalitis, and other autoimmune diseases of the central nervous system.
Dr. Conte takes a personalized, whole-person approach to care. He understands that no two patients experience MS or other neuroimmunologic conditions the same way, and he works closely with each individual to develop a treatment plan that is evidence-based, realistic, and aligned with their goals. His approach goes beyond medications—he integrates conversations about wellness, mindset, and lifestyle, recognizing the critical role these play in managing chronic disease and enhancing quality of life.
Patients often describe Dr. Conte as compassionate, thoughtful, and deeply committed. He believes in empowering his patients through education, collaborative decisions, and open, honest communication. Whether newly diagnosed or years into their journey, his goal is to be a trusted partner in helping people feel heard, supported, and equipped to live well.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Conte is an active researcher focused on health equity in MS care, particularly among LGBTQ+ individuals and other historically underserved populations. He regularly presents his work at national and international conferences and serves as a principal investigator for both clinical trials and investigator-led studies.
Dr. Conte is also the founder and president of the Chicago MS Alliance, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving access to high-quality MS and neuroimmunology care across the region. The Alliance brings together clinicians, researchers, and patient advocates to foster collaboration, advance education, and drive innovation in care.
Originally from Florida, Dr. Conte earned his bachelor’s degree in neurobiology at the University of Florida (go Gators!). He went on to complete both his medical degree and adult neurology residency at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. He then pursued a prestigious Sylvia Lawry Fellowship in multiple sclerosis and neuroimmunology, awarded by the National MS Society, at The University of Chicago. During this time, he also earned a master’s degree in public health sciences.
